>> also, a hardware store owner is pleading for community support after early morning fire got his business and his forces, parents who lived upstairs out of their home. and troubling comments from an alameda county first responder, a driver capturing the moment a firefighter allegedly went on a racist rant. and today the fire chief is responding. >> station. is kron. 4 news too. >> thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 2. this was an explosive argument that was full of racial slurs that could cost firefighter his job. i'm just involved in appreciate you being with us this afternoon. there's this video of a heated exchange between alameda county firefighter and another driver that's making the rounds today. and we want to get into it a little bit here because conferece theresa stasi was in our newsroom. she has the latest on this developing story just we've been digging

into this for quite sometime. this back and forth started shortly after firefighter and the other driver got into an accident and it all quickly escalated. >> he an intense confrontation. now the focus of a sweeping investigation involving an alameda county firefighter. firefighter was off-duty when he was recorded by the driver after an accident in lodi. the video posted on tiktok friday know, i i about but do not work drivers says several times that the firefighters spit on him. the fire fire can be heard hurling racial slurs and profanity at the driver attacking his ethnicity, his job, and he's driving on monday. incident has sparked understandable concern. and i want to address it directly with transparency and

accountability. alameda county fire chief william mcdonald addressing the situation saying that the firefighter who has not been identified has been placed on paid administrative leave. >> i want to sincerely apologize on behalf of the firefighter in our department his actions. what you saw on the video does not in any way reflect their dedication to integrity, professionalism and community trust. >> the chief adding action is already underway and the department. >> so you're probably wondering what is being done. cfd is taking a critical look inward and assessing where we are with our training and our guidance for personnel in organizational culture. we are taking immediate steps to improve relationships with our community, improving enhanced sensitivity training for all of our members of the department. additionally, we are implementing mechanisms to measure progress in fostering a more inclusive and respectful environment. >> and there is this. the chief stressed that they all made. the county fire

department is diverse the agency embracing a diverse workforce. he also added that, although this is a personnel matter what happens in this case after an investigation will be publicly released in the newsroom. theresa stasi of it just a risa. thank you. and in response to this, a racial rant, the alameda county firefighters union president released a statement that reads in part, we are deeply troubled by the remarks made in the video. the comments that were not reflect the values we strive to uphold as a union and are contrary to our mission to serve all members of our community. a young child ithlatest victim of a hit and rucrash. this crash happened at the intersection of aatz avenue at dover street in berkeley. police right now are trying to find the person responsible kron. 4 charles clifford joins us now live from the scene with the latest details >> well, good afternoon. the good news here looks like this child is going to be so is the father. and now the police

department is searching for a hit and run driver. around 8.15, monday morning. a man pushing his young child in a stroller was struck by a vehicle here. the intersection of dover and alcatraz avenue. the 2 were apparently in the crosswalk when they were hit. i a crash. i heard a scream. i heard baby cry. linda living bomb was in her home at the time of the crash and could see the intersection outside her window. i looked out and i saw stroller. >> and the student. according to police, the father was uninjured, but his child was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. >> police say the suspect vehicle, which they described only as a sedan, fled south along dover street. the driver is believed to be an adult male. alcatraz is like sometimes like a freeway. linda says she would like to see the city make some safety improvements at this intersection. people do not stop. even cleared. marked crosswalk right out berkley police are asking drivers and

pedestrians to use caution. and we're just encouraging that drivers to follow the rules of the road. >> that intersections keep an eye out for pedestrians. also encouraging pedestrians. he is mark marked crosswalks where whenever possible. and providers so way distracted driving as well. >> all right, back live now. the police farms also asking that if anyone has any information or they might have seen what happened this morning to give them a call. but for now in the east bay, charles clifford kron, 4 news. charles, thank one person is recovering after a fire burned a family owned hardware store in san francisco. this happened early yesterday morning. >> at great wall hardware on terrible street in the sunset. the owner albert chao says his parents also lived on the top floor of that store and they have been forced out. san francisco supervisor, joel and cardio, who represents that area posted these photos on social media calling the great wall hardware, a beloved and the central small business. it's not clear how the fire

started, but the owner says they are now working to rebuild the supervisor. writing in part, we are grateful to albert his family tenants and employees that they're all ok, my office will do everything we can to assist albert and reopening his store. so great wall hardware can continue serving the sunset community. and if you want to support the child families so they can rebuild this hardware store. there's gofundme that set up. we're looking at it live here on the screen right now. and the san francisco part apartment had to force entry into an apartment this morning because of a fire. this happened in the soma neighborhood near fulsome and 6th. one person had to be rescued through a window. firefighters say a sprinkler contained the fire to just one room. the cause of the fire is under investigation. all right. as we kick off the week, we're looking at the fog making a comeback here across the golden gate bridge. we have. >> cuyler back in the weather center with this afternoon to talk what's going on this week. it's going to be warm.

hey there. yeah, we've got a warm run monday tuesday, wednesday. then we're going to cool it down again as we head towards the weekend and then warming up again. >> as we get into our labor day week. so starting on monday. but today, blue skies, beautiful out there. i just checked of downtown san francisco gauges at 75 degrees. the one that's around dolores park is at 80 degrees. but check out some of these numbers here. oakland right now at 86 san jose. up to 91, same story in livermore. so we're starting to warm up a bit there. 90 in concord, santa rose at 91 half moon bay's a very different story for one reason that i'm sure you can guess. and that is because we've got some marine layer that's been hanging out there all day. in fact, half moon bay, 7 degrees cooler than they were this time yesterday. a stark difference from everywhere else around the bay area which is running warmer than it was 24 hours ago. in fact, if you're in a spot like livermore, you're 9 degrees warmer. so, you know, that's a big difference. but take a look here. this is why we're cooler at the coast and still shrouded in clouds at the golden gate bridge. you can see it right there. they've been hanging on to that marine layer and that

will change as we get later into this week. but for today, at least that's the take a look at stormtracker 4. you can see that. there. it is a little bit of marine layer kind of hang out right at the coast. as we zoom out, start to see this little bit of ridge of high pressure that's going to be building in and that means the temperatures are going to stay warm as that builds tomorrow will be the peak of that heat for those inland. and i do think inner east they will be the warmest spot. but north and south. but you'll get up in those low to mid-nineties as well. same story on wednesday. just pull it back. a couple of degrees and then everything changes. i'll have more details coming up. >> thank you. developing news now out of the east bay where police are investigating a deadly shooting that took place at a homeless shelter berkeley berkley. police officers say they arrived to the harrison house shelter and discovered a man inside had been shot. the victim did not survive the suspected shooter has not been caught. palais how police are investigating a string of dangerous sideshows

and one ended with a deadly shooting. the other involved a police chase in to the east bay. and there was even this 10 foot python that's been involved here. kron 4 sarah stinson has the story. >> hundreds of cars packed into this intersection here on lewis brown, drive for a sideshow that turned deadly. you can still see the tire marks on the road. i spoke with a woman who lives nearby. she says such as happened here all the time. but this being deadly concerns are. >> i don't go out the house like when they're around were told to not like but yeah, it's it's really >> its longtime legal resident wishes to remain anonymous while speaking out about the chaos that unfolded year for moms home early saturday morning. >> like the cars driving around really crazy. i heard like a loud explosion like fireworks and then some pops a budget. now >> police say they responded to several sideshows involving

500 participating cars. video shows participants creating a ring of fire for people to jump in and out of cars did donuts around them. things took a turn at the intersection of lewis brown road and bw william's drive. when shots rang out. police say when they arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound. it tried to save him, but he died at the scene. another victim is currently in critical condition after being shot at another location about 3 miles away. no arrests have been made for the 2 shootings. police say they also got into a pursuit with one of the cars at the side show. it ended in hercules 4 people got out of the car and ran and then officers found a 10 foot python inside the car. multiple agencies assisted with locating them. police arrested the driver for reckless driving obstruction and involvement in a sideshow. 3 passengers received misdemeanor citations and released at the scene. the car was towed in the python was

returned to its criminally charged owner. remnants of the sideshow can still be lewis brown road including beer cans, shredded tires and bullets. the one we spoke with says the city needs to do something to prevent the sideshows from happening. maybe not having intersection so open, maybe putting like a roundabout or like a center divide like something that would deter people from gathering. i reached out to the mayor of allay several city council members and police to see >> what they want to do to curb side shows. but no one was available to speak in time for this report. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in vallejo kron. 4 news. >> now to an update to a story we've been following today. bus services in san mateo county will not be distrupted this week after failed contract negotiations. san mateo county officials say all bus drivers showed up for work today after a scheduled call out sick day was planned as the negotiations continue between samtrans in the union. these negotiations have been underway for the last few months with the most recent

weeks ago. samtrans officials say the offer was fair competitive and also offered a fair wage increase. no word on why that offer was rejected. following a string of islands, oakland city leaders will gather with residents this week to continue a series of events that are dedicated to public safety. it's billed as the clean and safe city town halls. the top 5 leaders from the community will be there meeting with the public today and tomorrow. this includes mayor sheng thao, the police chief floyd mitchell fire chief damon damon, covington and the city administrator justin johnston, as well as other various city staff. first city leaders will meet today at the saint john's episcopal church in tomorrow at fremont high school. all of these events start at 5.30, in the evening. the first community roundtable was held last friday. new at to more than 14 million dollars will be used to create a new ev

investigating the assassination attempt on the former president and united states of america. you do not get to attempt to assassinate our elected officials our candidates. it's unacceptable. body camera video from local law enforcement shows an officer saw thomas matthew crooks on the roof with a gun at 6.10, crooks started firing at 6.11. while the official task force looking into the shooting toward the site in butler, pennsylvania, some republican members of congress discuss the shooting at a dc based think tank the building. a shot from his outside of the perimeter. >> and the video we see, we can see him clearly just a mere 130 yards away. they question one of the members of the swat team who says he was on the scene that day. he says he felt unprepared to really felt like we were on the back foot and just tried to overcome that throughout the day and gather what we could. >> now, 5 of the secret service agents involved in the planning for that event are

now on administrative leave. meaning they can't participate in investigative or protective actions. also, the former director of the secret service, kimberly cheatle resigned after the shooting. justine. >> maybe a thank you so much. oakland police are investigating 2 separate missing persons cases. both involve girls who disappeared last month. first, there's 12 year-old karen korea. she was last seen july 5th on 86th avenue near international. she was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans. police say that she has brown eyes red hair and a tattoo on her left hand. there's also 15 year-old angelina she's been missing since july. 30th and was last seen near loma vista avenue. she has black hair and brown eyes. police, though, do not believe that these cases are connected. a helicopter helping to put out a fire in

the area of american canyon road and highway 82 buildings were initially threatened here. >> one building was damaged. crews were able to contain this fire to about 4 acres has a frequency and severity of the fire activity in california has increased. we need to meet that need with highly specialized mission. critical aircraft. >> you're looking at one in 7 of cal fire's newest additions. this is the c-one 30. their take. >> welcome here to the newest member of the cal fire fleet. 7 c-one 30 hercules air tankers. we're now be helping to fight wildfires across california. they can fly 800 miles and store 4,000 gallons of fire retardant. these planes used to belong to the u.s. coast guard. but a bill passed by congress last december allowed them to be transferred over to california making cal fire the first in the country to use these planes. and there was in the tahoe area. some rare august snow this weekend. this is what it looked like at

palisades tahoe, a resort spokesperson says it was the first august's know they have seen since 2004, heavenly and northstar resort are both set to open up november 22nd just in time for thanksgiving break. kirkwood is supposed to be opening up december 6. we're looking outside right now at palisades tahoe can we see if there's any still left there on the ground? we got kylie here joining us with this rare event for august. yeah, and also a little bit of rain right for the bay area. it was it was a rare event. that's for sure. and i've been searching my cameras of you're looking at halftime down debt. you're 70 as you can see, not a whole lot of snow to talk about here, but it's beautiful. >> tahoe right now, 70 degrees and sunshine. so obviously any snow that did fall very likely having a little bit of trouble staying alive at this point. but let's take a look here from diamond peak. and i'd like to think that maybe if we look way way in the distance to go way up high, we might see a little bit of snow surviving that, you know, place that i tend to see it is when you're flying, right?

like between here in vegas, there's you get into that part of this year where it's really high up in really remote. but obviously the next few days we're not looking out for any snow. they're looking for sunshine. it's nice temperatures. so what's going on here is we've got a little high pressure that's going building in as that build in. we start to warm up now. eventually that starts to move on. so by thursday, some low pressure starts dipping in. and as that moves in, we start to cool down and that will be the difference, right. and what's going on. having said that, let's look at these temperatures really quickly here for a look at livermore, one of my hot spots. and i do think that inner east bay will be the hottest spots. >> you can see tomorrow expecting upper 90's. so that's going to be a really hot day for those of you inland to just make sure you're ready for it. another very warm day, very similar to today as we get into wednesday. and then that's when that low pressure moves in. right? and there goes. and we roll right on back down, in fact, going to below average temperatures. so the chances of any more kind of wild sprinkles or snowflakes? not likely, as you can see take you into friday, a just tiny little chance of maybe a

>> sprinkle or 2 in the sierra. but you don't see any of that pink or white showing up indicating that we'll be getting any more snowflakes. so it's unlikely. but it was interesting and we'll take all of the moisture we can get no doubt about it this time of year. both here and in the sierra. take a look at your extended forecast. it's a warm one the next couple of days. thursday should be really nice day. and then by friday, we're going to move in with some cooler temperatures a little bit more marine layer presence and fog in the morning. notice we get to labor day, though. we're gonna start picking it up again and have a really beautiful. almost perfectly seasonal day for the holiday. back to you. >> san jose held that silicon valley pride parade and hundreds showed up yesterday to join in as the event wrapped up a week of pride. celebrations. people there say there were lots of fun things to do. >> garden. >> over there. things that make silicon valley pride. >> somewhat unique, maybe is that we are really geared towards families. >> so we have a space for them. set aside. activities.

longer her business has left here immediately. you kind of have the sense of like not true. it's not believable. you know what, what has happened in the last week? that's cause u.s. 3 break-ins in 3 weeks. you know, each break and is costing them thousands of dollars. this most recent break-in, the suspect broke glass still wine and broke into their safe worth. thousands of dollars. this could definitely be the one that that that just does us. and for news first reported on funny farms troubles at the start of august. then the doors were broken. local leaders told funny farm they were working with police to increase enforcement. then just 4 days later, tablets, and moore was taken. police then stayed on scene for hours investigating. police did a walk-through of all the neighboring businesses. and i don't appreciate just a lot of talk. i need action. but now levi sped up. she says enforcement has been too slow because of police staffing. this is a very, very nice area. this is a very, very safe area. >> yet where ignored in the

middle of the night when there's nothing open. i've gotten the reassurances. the department's is leaning in on following every lead to oak. and ellis is the councilman for this district in san jose and has been working with san jose police and these nonstop break-ins. >> he says the thief is the same single person. every time he says it must be someone who knows the restaurant's layup by no means. is random at this point, whoever this mystery suspect is the people at funny farm need answers fast. everyone. space shocked that is it happening and for levi who wants her customers happy and to keep her staff continuing to serve this neighborhood. and that's the hard part because i feel like i'm disappointing them. if i don't do everything, they can stick around. >> but i i don't how much more i can do. jacques moment, kron 4 news. a 31 year-old man could be sentenced to more than 200 years behind bars for crimes committed in the east bay. joseph carroll found

guilty last week of killing 3 people also attempted murder and other crimes in oakland dating back to 2009 in april 2009, carol murdered a man in a drive-by shooting. a man tried to kill his brother who was injured. >> he also tried to murder a man a month later and then shot and killed the man who was getting out of this car and oakland. he was also the gunman in the deadly drive-by shooting from april of 2011 district attorney pamela price said that the level and scope of the violence here is outrageous. and she added that she's proud of, quote, the hard work and dedication displayed by the trial team if sentenced on all the charges, carol, could receive more than 200 years in prison. the san jose police department is getting $400,000 worth of military equipment. the department will get new rifles for patrol officers as well as the swat teams. there will also be surveillance drones, sound cannons and a bomb squad robot purchases like these have been controversial in san

jose because military grade weapons were used during protests in 2020 and that led to costly lawsuits. in national news now, fears of a wider middle east war are growing after israel struck targets across lebanon. our washington correspondent trevor shirley has the latest. top u.s. officials remain in the middle east as those tension show. no sign of letting up. >> on sunday, israel and lebanon's hezbollah launched their heaviest exchange of fire yet, obviously, this is tense. it's something we have to be concerned about. some democratic lawmakers say the white house is doing everything it can to keep the situation from becoming an all-out regional war. we're working with our jordanian partners, our saudi partners, as well as israel and some of the soft diplomacy going on with even the iranians try to keep this from escalating top u.s. defense officials, including the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, along with military forces, remain in the middle east. the u.s.

posture in the region is very strong that i think played a role in deterring iran. iran supports both hamas and hezbollah against israel and leaders say keeping iran in check is what's needed to contain more fighting this. a nightmare for ron and her proxies. >> for the arabs and the israelis to reconcile and make peace and take the region in a different direction. the white house says president joe biden is monitoring the situation as hope remains. a cease-fire could still happen but hopefully reach a cease-fire. >> with hamas is around hamas as soon as possible. >> cease-fire talks in cairo remain ongoing among several middle eastern countries and the united states reporting in washington. i'm trevor shirley. >> now to some developing news out of iceland where police there have called off the search for 2 tourists initially believed to be missing after the collapse of an ice cave yesterday, an american man was killed in this collapse and an american woman was seriously injured.

and now police believe that no one is missing. authorities called off the search after examining the tour operators records and determining the 23 people were on that trip. not 25 as first believed tropical storm hone a lashing hawaii with strong winds and lots of rain. power lines brought down this flash flooding took over parts of the big island. some parts of the island seeing 18 inches of rain today. the big part of the island, some parts of it anyway remain without power. meteorologist kyla grogan tracking that storm and a few others. yes, was a category one when it passed to the south of hawaii. and the thing is we've got more on the way you can see hurricane gilma. >> now a category 2 right here in behind it. tropical storm hector. so to say the pacific is getting active is an understatement. obviously they don't need any more rain right now, but they don't have a choice because by the time we

get to the weekend, we're going to be talking about the impacts of hurricane gilma again now category 2. and you can see that it is going to lose a little bit of strength as it starts to work its way towards hawaii. but right now looks like it will pass just to the north. and remember the one that just passed as a category one pass to the south of it. it doesn't have to be a direct hit to have such impact. so by thursday, we'll start hear some of the impacts of this. now, the one that is behind that tropical storm, that one is still a little too early to say exactly what's going to happen with that. but here's what we know. they don't need the additional rain and we've got more rainfall on the way. and this is just the beginning of it because this just covers the next few days, not even the weekend. now, here's one thing. that's a positive thing for hawaii's that they have had some pretty severe drought conditions. obviously, this will help that. but when you get it too fast, it's just unfortunate because you want the rain. you just don't want to cause those big, huge problem. so that's going keep an eye on. meanwhile, back in the bay, we've had a lot of sunshine out there, but not at the golden gate bridge. you can see folks are visiting our encountering some of that fog,

but head into downtown san francisco. it's already 77 degrees. you can see those low 90's come back in a bit. we'll talk about how long this inland heat will last. back to you. there's another update on those to u.s.. astronauts were stranded in space. it's not been encouraging, though, because nasa confirmed they will not be returning home until next year. >> so they're planned 8 day trip will now last at least 8 months. news nation correspondent xavier walton has the latest. >> was a decision months in the making and right out of the gate. nasa's administrator bill nelson, very serious tone, but saying that sunny and butch would be returning home to earth in february, citing safety and saying it wasn't worth the risk. here's nasa's top guy. >> we have had mistakes done in the past. we lost. 2 space shuttles as a result of they're not being a culture. and which information could

come forward. the decision to keep butch in sunny aboard the international space station and bring the boeing starliner home. uncrewed is result of a commitment to safety. so what started as an 8 day mission for astronaut suni williams and butch wilmore. >> has now turned into an 8 month mission after weeks of testing nasa and boeing making that very tough decision to keep the astronauts on the iss. officials say helium leaks and thruster issues in the propulsion system where ultimately to blame for sunny and butch's extended stay in space. nasa ultimately calling on spacex during its crew launch in september. instead of sending 4 astronauts to the iss on its dragon capsule. spacex now only sending 2 astronauts making room for sunny and butch to hitch a ride home. >> we have a lot of work to do relative to the rest of the mission, which is bush and sunny, stay on the space station for some time and a return on crew. 9. we're
